The Haggis Thank You!
August 20th, 2006 @ 12:45 am
It has been a crazy week - we leave for Scotland in TWO WEEKS now and the reality of this trip has finally hit. We have been emailing people in the UK like crazy, it seems as if we already know fifteen or so people and we’ve never even stepped foot over there. What’s great is most of these people don’t know each other yet, but they all share the same vision for creating a movement of love and service in the UK - whether in England or Scotland!
On another note, we have been overwhelmed with your generosity. It is amazing that people from all over the country - most of whom we have never met - have been so willing to invest in this trip. We needed $800 and to date, this community at FlowerDust.net has donated $650!
Honestly, we weren’t expecting much of a response since - well, most of you don’t know us personally. The fact that you have trusted us with your gifts and prayers means more than you know.
Please continue to pray for us the next two weeks as we finish the practical things like packing, lining up cat-sitters, finances, handling work responsibilities and time management.
But we especially covet your prayers for our health and safety, physically and spiritually as we prepare. My mom will also be having surgery while we are gone, so prayers for her health are appreciated as well.
We know there will be forces working against us, trying to divide us and beat us down, and through your prayers of protection and God’s grace, we will be more than covered.
Any advice for traveling overseas or missions?

Don’t drink the water? No, that’s not it… Don’t eat the Haggis. THAT’S it. Oh yeah, I agree with Los, make sure to get many pics of Chris in a kilt. Bonus points if he had the courage to go…sentinel. :)

We were told that you need to be culturally aware and not offend your hosts by turning down cultural delights …. SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DO WHEN THAT HAGGIS AND BLACK PUDDING APPEARS ON YOUR PLATE

what ever you do DO NOT reffer to pants as the things you wear over your underpants…it will cause huge hellarity it means your under pants! There was once this lady who came to see us in the states and she asked my dad if it was okey just to wear her pants to church the next day, at that me and allan got the fit of giggles and my dad had to explain why..i bet she was embaressed!

Oh and also since all the crazy stuff with the planes I would see what you are allowed to do as far as travel and what to bring and not to bring. That would suck to get to the airport and have to throw stuff away.

my dad’s sage wisdom for overseas travel: lay out all the clothes you plan to take and the money you plan to bring.
now, before you pack it, take 1/2 of the clothes away - and double the amount of money.
:)
have an awesome trip - we’ll be praying ….

keep a dailty “trip” journal. All the details. Someday in the future it will be really cool to look back and remember all the little things that you experience in a foreign land.

“Immodium AD. Lots.” … Who wrote this, its Scotland they are coming to, not Outer Mongolia, we are a fairly modern country, oh I forgot with Adam Smith and David Hume being Scottish natives we probably created the modern world and because we have a national health service even if you get a dodgy tummy it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to go and see the doctor!
