Where do Computers Go When They Die?
August 29th, 2006 @ 10:58 pm

I know where mine’s going. Any computer that decides to end its life five days before a missions trip where it will be heavily used is not going to a place filled with angels and harps.
That’s right, folks. My computer has died.
It had pulled through three comas in the last six months, but whatever sleep it fell into tonight, I don’t think it will recover.
There are two really bad things that happen because of this. One - I had all my freelance work on it. One site I was working on, I didn’t have access to upload, so I doubt I’ll be able to get them to my client before we leave. And two, I was going to be working on web stuff for James while we were in Scotland as part of our trip.
I tell you these things for this reason alone:
Please pray.
Pray that our wonderful IT director Shane will somehow be able to revive its soul. And if not, please pray my clients will be graceful when I tell them it may be another month. And please pray that somehow this will get resolved. We don’t have the money to fork out for a new computer, and finding one with all the software I need preloaded is near impossible.
I am really looking forward to see how God’s going to work in this one…

You know I am on my knees over this one. The same thing happened to mine just before we went to the States, do you think Bill Gates has programed them not to cross the Atlantic to stop people getting cheap deals and shipping them home? I love a good conspiracy theory!

if it’s a PC, just try restarting it! I’ve actually heard of a couple success stories with “hard-drive” recovery companies. http://www.double3.com used “Disk Warrior” I think. you could ask him.

My uncle once told me “If you pray for rain, bring an umbrella.” Admitedly, this is not as profound as Uncle Ben telling Peter Parker “With great power, comes great responsibility,” but it did impact my prayer life.
I am excited to see you expecting God to work. Not in a manipulative way, but an anxious faith filled way.

From now on, use something like box.net to back up your stuff!
But hoping your current stuff comes out to be okay. But even if the computer itself doesn’t come on, can the harddrive be removed and inserted into another machine and read the info from it?

I’m going to pray for a new one. God is bigger than we give him credit for.
Oh,yea, 2 words. External Harddrive. (For that new computer, anyway)

I note: the hard drive is fine. It just doesn’t want to receive power to turn on. We’ll be able to rescue my info - I just can’t get to it now, or use it now…and I need it now.
Thanks for your prayers…
