Rick Warren-Selling Out/Reaching Out?
Posted on December 14th, 2006 @ 4:54 pm

If you are a close-minded, Christian conservative* person, save yourself some time and don’t even read this post. And if you do and get angry, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I left this comment on Kristiapplesauce’s blog, after she reposted something opposing Rick Warren’s latest invitation of Barack Obama speak at an AIDS conference at his church. Please note - this was not a worship service. It was hosted at Saddleback Church for business leaders, relgious leaders and AIDS advocacy groups. So when I say “This was not a ministry event” that is what I mean. If anything, Saddleback and Rick Warren ministered to people they would normally never get to speak to, or show love to. In that way, yes it was a ministry event. I digress. On to my thoughts.

1. This was not a ministry event.
2. This was not a ministry event.
3. This was not a ministry event.

How cool is it that Obama got to hang out with some of the most annointed Christian leaders in our day? How awesome is it that Rick Warren invited him and has befriended him and not judged him because of his different beliefs? How amazing that business leaders who are not believers and people who wouldn’t ever touch a SBC with a ten-foot pole were walking through the doors of a church building, where the staff of Saddleback greeted them and showed them Christ’s love while they were there?

How ridiculous is it that so many Christians are quick to judge and say how wrong this is and it just casts the typical light of “What Christians are against rather than what Christians are for” the instant Amercian Conservatives begin feeding off each other in the name of life and intolerance?

And may I just say for those Bush-lovers out there…He is not pro-life…he is anti-abortion. Think about it. Not only do some babies who are murdered not die instantly and “squirm” around until their final breath. Read this article to see what I mean.

Maybe you will disagree with me on this - and that is fine. I am so happy the Christians are finally pissed off at Rick Warren - it means he’s doing something right, and if anything has stopped selling out to his Purpose-Driven followers. I guess spending a little time with Bono has rubbed off on him.

I applaud you, Rick!

(Read Rick Warren’s response to the Christians who oppose his actions)

vacuum stripes
Posted on December 11th, 2006 @ 10:18 pm

maybe i am a freak.  but i love the stripes vacuum cleaners make on the carpet.  our vacuum cleaner broke the day before we left for kansas city (november 20-something) and we had to order a part for it.  it finally came in over the weekend and chris fixed it tonight so i was able to vacuum.  i swear i was going crazy with all the little things being tracked in.  and our cats decided to rip up one of their nerf balls so that was shredded everywhere.  i could seriously vacuum three times a day.  there is just something about those stripes…so cathartic.

Update on Meds (Continued)…
Posted on December 10th, 2006 @ 2:35 pm

So, first thanks for your prayers an encouragement from last Saturday’s post.  Instead of dropping back to 150mg of Wellbutrin, I stopped taking it all together. (*Note-don’t ever do that unless you’re under supervision from a doctor!)  I got switched over to Paxil, which affects a different chemical in the brain.  Some friends of mine have had success with it, but more importantly my own brother has been on it for a while and the difference it has made in him his tremendous, without very many side effects.

I haven’t started taking it yet.  Wellbutrin has the world’s longest half-life so it is still in my system for a few more days. I’ll probably start next weekend.  I know this stuff takes time to work and the side-effects diminish over time, but what Wellbutrin did to me was a little more than a side effect…I’d even say I was literally hysterical.  It was so crazy.

On to the next step…

don’t you hate it

when you suck?  when someone gets under your skin and you react irrationally and unlovingly?  regardless of how stupid what someone says is, that still doesn’t give you a right to tell them how dumb they are.  sigh.  i need to learn me some grace.

Authenticity

Photo Time
Posted on December 9th, 2006 @ 10:51 am

So, last night was Lake Pointe’s Media Team Christmas party.  One of the coolest things they did was have an area set up for professional family photos, which each family received via jump drive immediately after.  As we stood in line, we saw the way the families were being posed.  Nothing horrible, but your typical “lean on your hip, put your hand here, tilt your head, sit down here” kind of a portrait.  Which if you know Chris or me, we are not exactly the formal family portrait posing kind of people.  So, much to the amusement of the people waiting in line after us, we improvised.  I hope you enjoy.
