weekend thought…recommended by YOU
March 23rd, 2007 @ 4:52 pm
there are only 36 blogs to which i subscribe. i check out probably double or triple that on any given week, but i am only subscribed to 36. some of them haven’t updated for a while. i’m getting bored.
(by the way, i’ve added some easy options if you don’t subscribe to flowerdust.net and would like to. they are over there on the right…see ‘em? very well.)

i’ll recommend two from my list:
As it were… by Topher Derosia. Why? Because he always has cute quotes from his two girls.
Expostulation & Reply by Nathan Ho. Why? Because he always has something interesting to say about words.

Shameless Self Promotion
I really enjoy reading my own blog. I laugh. I cry. Occasionally, I cringe. Maybe that’s why I call it The Secret Life of Kat.
I also have a music blog (The Secret MUSIC Life of Kat) and I link to a free (legal) song every Monday. On the other days I usually write about music marketing and industry news.
Good Reads
Self promotion aside, some of my other favorite reads are:
Shaun Groves
Brant Hansen
Kristin Danielle
Lifehacker
A Dose of Reality
And these blogs remind me daily how easy I have it and that I have so much to be thankful for:
Rebekah’s Page
Persecution Blog
There you go. I hope you find something in there that inspires, challenges or just makes you laugh.
I don’t comment much, but I enjoy your blog and your articles immensely. Thanks Anne.

i think you should read my blog. why you ask? because im fricking brilliant! all joking aside, here are a few i recommend and check regularly:
ysmarko - http://www.ysmarko.com/
Mark O is the president of Youth Specialties. My personal favorite blogger. Honest, witty, insanly brilliant and humble. nice combo.
Russian Adoption - http://goeppneradoption.blogspot.com
the hottest blogger on the planet, my wife, shares our experiences as we go through the gruelling russian adoption process. we are adopting 2 children from siberia.
TV Squad - http://www.tvsquad.com/
becuase i dont have time to keep up with alot of tv, this weblog helps in keeping up with shows without completely killing your time. the writing can be pretty good too.

You could add Anne Jackson - really good thoughts, good prose. I added her to my google reader last week or so. So I think that would be a good… hey, wait. Never mind.

Read, because reading is learning. In the case of my blog you will learn what a white trash, Redneck, hign school drop out, G.K. Chesterton Lovin’, book club leader has to say about life and living for Jesus.

K-
Brian asked this a few posts ago. I’ll paste my answer to him here, and then add an additional note I thought about this weekend.
1. this sounds stupid, but i don’t believe in link love. link me, and that’s great. unlink me because i don’t link back, that’s fine. it starts (for me) turning into a popularity contest and people get pissed when they aren’t linked to or when they are ranked a certain way. i’m not going to link to everyone so i won’t link to anyone. i love everyone. but i don’t love link love.
2. maintenance - if i were to link to everyone that links to me, that at the moment, according to technorati, is about 115 different people. i promise i dont know who most of them are and would feel uncomfortable linking to them, keeping up with their blogs and values, and managing a list like that. los does it, and does it successfully, but for me, that is not something on which i feel i need to spend time.
hope that answers…i keep track of the blogs i enjoy using google reader, an rss reader.

I agree with the whole link love thing. I like having a blog roll because it shows people what I am into and a bit of my personality. But I don’t link for the sake of linkage back.

I like Dave Burchett (www.daveburchett.com). We used to go to the same church in Garland when I was growing up.
He once told me he enjoyed my writing, and encouraged me to write more… I thought “Oh, isn’t that nice…” and then I realized that a PUBLISHED AUTHOR had just told me he enjoyed my writing and that I should write more. A few years later, I pulled my head out of the clouds.
There’s also this kid named Wes Hartley… but he’s a little nutty.

I just ran into your blog via Matt Singley’s blog. I like how you write.
Maybe you could add ME to your read list. Sometimes I’m deep… sometimes it’s just verbal diarrhea finding itself projected out through my fingers and onto the keyboard.
I usually entertain myself… so… there’s that! So… pick me!

people should in no way read my food blog. I don’t know what I’m talking about. much as my general blog. they both suck. OK, so I am very unoriginal. like 568 people have already done that…..
I like Los’ blog, platypimuse is good, too. Les Brown’s blog kills me. David Crowder has finally begun to update his on the recording of the new album.
Tony Green (miwat.blogspot.com) is funny whenever he gets off his butt and blogs.
I link the people I read because I start at my homepage and go from there. But I’m getting tired of seeing my IP addy in my site tracker…now I go from my navigation bar.
I’m off to sleep!

Hi Anne! I have been a “RelevantMag”reader of yours for awhile…but only recently did I discover your blog! I love it! I think you would really enjoy reading what Kem Meyer has to say. Her blog is http://www.kemmeyer.typepad.com.
Keep up the great writing! I’ll be tuning in!
