hi, hello, who are you?
March 28th, 2007 @ 2:00 am
It’s time to do this again…I am bumping this post to the top on the account of “meeting†about ten new people this week who have either been lurking a while and have just started commenting, or have just recently found this little corner of the web!
So…I am wondering who else is out there!
Without further adieu…please introduce yourself if you already haven’t below…and read through the list of FlowerDusters (did I really just write that? YIKES!) who often drop by my humble abode.
who are you?
where are you?
whaddya do?
how’d you get here?
anything else on top of that is icing on the cake!

Found your blog off of the Relevant article awhile back. I think I might’ve heard you on the radio too? Either way, I think you’re someone I’d like to have an expensive latte with at church. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and I like cake with icing.

I’m on staff at a church in Portland, Oregon. I oversee several departments, all with people working in them that are much more apt than me. That’s a good thing.
On my blog I write primarily to a non-Christian audience, even though I estimate 75%+ of my readers are Christian. I write about what is on my heart, not what may be popular or well-received by my peers. I get the impression that you do the same thing. I will be a loyal reader because of your genuine voice.
Trivia: I have a ridiculously low voice. Subsonic. And no, I don’t work in radio, even though every other person that meets me asks that. Just thought I would throw some trivia in, maybe it will catch on…

I have two great kids and an awesome husband. My husband recently left his position as youth pastor at our church (a role he had for 12 years) to return to seminary study. He now works in video/media production by day and reads by night. I’m doing the work/family scramble at all times of the day. Have recently awakened to the fact that I love to write, but due to the aforementioned scramble, have yet to dive in deeply. Am consoling myself through blogs like yours, which I found through your work at Relevant. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

i’m cori. i met you via matt singley while visiting texas for a conference in frisco for a fabulous tour of lake pointe. (we coveted your student ministry building, but shhh, coveting=not good according to the Bible, etc)
my job: i moved from doing communication stuff (at the time it wasn’t as cool as what you do now) for a church in happy valley, oregon (neighbor to boring, oregon) to work with small groups and “spiritual formation”… i find irony in my job daily as one of two (three actually, but the third is engaged and therefore does not count) single people on staff and thusly works with marriage ministries. yes, its true. when single people get engaged, they come to me to help them get married. as a single person, this is lovely. therefore, my next ministry project is a singles ministry. hmm. well, so, yeah. not sure why i am rambling about this. pent up frustration? hmm.
it was great meeting you, and now i feel connected to the world of cool young writers and artists. i also had to check out the office mates’ blog to see for myself who this guy who has many amusing allergies and a ’spartan’ office is like. i was impressed by his blog where he mentions starbucks guy, not only because i recently learned was a dopia (sp?) was (me: non-coffee drinker) but was mesmerized by the mention of such beautiful blue eyes. you didn’t mention that when we toured. haha.
ok, this is getting long. the end.

I found your site when searching for the Pope’s “10 commandements of driving” after hearing about it on the news. It surprised me that your site came up first (as opposed to the Vatican’s site, other religious sites, or other news sites). Furthermore, it surprised me that we were both in the Dallas area. The more I looked at your site, the more I realized that we had in common, not the least of which was that we both end up working late. I too am tired and heading to bed. Thanks for sharing your time and thoughts!

Anne, you possess intangible tools of love, understanding, compassion, and faith. Your blog is so relevant and real. Brings pardon where there has been injury in a life that we all casually cross paths in daily work…helps turn doubt into faith in a person whom we live intimately in our circle of family / friends. . . . Brings joy into a life consumed by sadness. . . Bears note of dignity into a subhuman, hopeless situation. Ah . . I’m motivated toCARE, and even CARE more. I am Pastor’s Wife of thirty-six years (my passion/ladies’ ministry) and since March have become an avid blogger.
Keep up the superior, phenomenal (soooo sharp) blogs. I have yet to find one that tops your’s! I found your blog through Google.

Hi! I’m T.J. a former female disc-jockey. Got saved at 13 in a little Methodist Church…at 18 I said ‘check ya later God’…THIS IS MY LIFE AND I’M LIVING IT THE WAY I WANT TO…..so I did….and it ended up in one horrible mess..abortion, occult, sex with a minor (from my DJ days) porn….shacking up..pregnant.. quickly married, miscarriage….soon after divorce….ending up in my parents basement like a worm. Still rocking though…rock concert after rock concert…MISERABLE….finally at a VAN HALEN concert Jesus broke thru my thick-skulled rebellion and gave me a VISION OF HELL…the ground at the concert opened up and people started going down into the bottomless pit..I was on my way down with them….THAT WAS IT….THE NIGHT OF THE REVOLUTION…..I GOT SAVED FOR REAL…….not from the heart of a child but from the heart of a prodigal rebel. I was already living in hell and knew it…Jesus just showed me my ETERNAL destination was also hell…forever…and that is the night i became SOLD OUT…..the world behind me….the cross before me….Now I am 100% different than I was bvack then….15 years now as a blowtorch……not a roller coaster up and down….on fire-then depressed, doubting, questioning faithless follower…but A CHRIST ONLY FOLLOWER…..it’s wonderful…
married to a good man, John…….I have twin sons…Canaan Landis…(for the Promised Land) and Jordan River cause the Hebrews had to cross it to get on over…..
My purpose is to train up my sons to KNOW THE LORD and to WALK WITH HIM…..we don’t do or watch alot of what the rest of the church does..it’s okay…..to know Jesus is better than LIFE! I work part-time at McDonald’s while my sons are in Christian school (huge financial sacrifice, but worth every penny!) ANd while I’m there mopping and cleaning off tables and keeping the lobby clean I’m sharing my faith and praying for people. Jesus is the answer. And Mcdonald’s is like a microcosim of the world…they all have the same needs….JESUS TO BREAK IN !!!

Hi Anne,
Surfed over from craig’s blog (love the grace tattoo). Looking forward to what appears to be an important book on “ecclesial health.” Reading a book now called Pagan Christianity (soon to be re-released by George Barna) and realizing yet again that the way we “do church” today bears little resemblance to the bible, or even the first 200-250 years of church history. Maybe that’s our fundamental illness? We have institutionalized, formalized, stratafied, professionalized, and mega-fied something that was intended to remain organic, holistic, horizontal, participative, and deeply communal.

Anne,
I’m Alan, a pastor of a fairly traditional church in South Tx. Been lurking about 1x per month on your site, and am real interested in Mad Church Disease. After reading your testimony of espionage and the battles of your family, I am now disturbed that I might be doing the same thing to my daughter. Luckily, this Labor Day weekend, I had arranged to skip church (we went somewhere where nobody knew us), did nothing at all, didn’t even call to see how services went. it felt good. I could get used to having Sundays off!! I love what I do, just don’t want it to negatively affect my daughter’s faith (she’s 11). thanks

Nice to meet you.
