weekend at the movies
April 13th, 2007 @ 10:52 am
being a film critic (that sounds so snobby, doesn’t it?) has some perks. getting to see movies in advance and for free is one. getting to talk about them via radio airwaves is another. my favorite though is probably the giveaways we get to do. (although getting kissed by…I mean getting to meet Will Smith is up there on the list).
please allow me to touch on all three perks.
1) i saw “perfect stranger” last night. save your money.
2) matt, cindy, and i are going to be on 89.7 powerfm in dallas on sunday at 9:00 pm CDT to talk about movies and film culture and honestly, who knows what else? it’s going to be a crazy show. don’t live in dallas? listen online live.
3) we’re giving away a copy of the queen AND a copy of dejavu. one lucky winner from flowerdust.net will be chosen! you may win one, you may win both…just enter here by april 24.
ENTER HERE FOR THE QUEEN AND
ENTER HERE FOR DEJA VU
Seen any good movies lately?

I saw Paris, je t’aime last night (in a press screening, and yes, being a critic rocks) and it was stellar! Loved it! Go see it! (Will write more on Relevant in a couple weeks. :D)

I know it’s been criticized for being too “cheesy” and all, but I thought Facing the Giants was a good movie. It is also quite amazing it only cost $100,000 to film and all the actors volunteered (ok, it looks like it sometimes), but the movie delivers a good message and is quite uplifting.

Thanks for the chance to win a great Tony Scott film… I enjoyed Deja Vu the first time I saw it in the theaters.

Whoa… Deja Vu…
Anyways, just got back from seeing TMNT because I’m a geek and I saw Grindhouse last week. TMNT… well, I’m still waiting for the movie that’s like the comics (you know, with blood, death, adult humor and Rapheal as the leader… the way it should be). Grindhouse was good… but it is truly an homage to exploitation films and shouldn’t be undertaken by the faint of heart or weak of stomach…

So Grindhouse seems to be classic Tarantino then?

I saw ‘Notes on a Scandal’ this week. The friends that I saw it with didn’t like it, but they have no idea, I thought it was a really good film, I especially loved the brilliant score.
It stars Judie Dench and Aussie Cate Blantchet. I don’t want to spoil the movie for anyone so just go see it!

Fantastic Four… could’ve been so much more. The Silver Surfer is such an intriguing character. Good though, if you get his character at all.

I can say this as a 100% straight guy who is comfortable in his sexuality.
Saw Superman Returns a while ago and man Brandon Routh is uber hot (did I just say uber!!? *slap forehead*) and the voice…oh my goodness! No I like only females really!!!
Movie Spoiler: Superman is actually Clark Kent!!
Three other movies I watched Michael Clayton (ugh! boring), Bourne Ultimatum, American Gangster (I’ve never seen any Denzel’s movie I don’t like).
