baby?
June 8th, 2007 @ 10:43 am

over the last few weeks, unbeknownst to me, i was developing an infection throughout my abdomen. pleasant sounding, isn’t it? before knowing of this illness, despite feeling a little sick to my stomach, my main concern was that chris and i would be surprised by our own little bundle of joy (not of the feline descent).

wednesday afternoon i was busy in my office when i felt like someone had stabbed me in the stomach. i doubled over in pain in my chair and tried to catch my breath. after the sharpness of the pain resolved, i informed my coworkers i’d be heading over to the doctor. after a CT scan to make sure it wasn’t my appendix (and also learning i was not pregnant…big sigh of relief!) they found some funky results on one of my other tests and given my symptoms, diagnosed me with a general infection that had taken over my lower abdomen.

so, i am still around. i’ve gotten a couple emails and IMs begging for an update but honestly i haven’t had much energy. the antibiotics are wiping me out and tearing apart my intestines. poor chris has been the dearest man, fetching me gatorade and movies and listening to my tantrums. i am not a fun girl to be around when i’m sick.

i have to be on these dumb pills (note the affection in my tone) for the next two weeks; which, by the way, contains one of the strangest instructions i have ever read: DO NOT LIE DOWN for 30 MINUTES after taking this pill.

seriously? what am i going to do? explode? levitate? that would be really cool i think (the levitating, not exploding)…if there are any doctors out there that could tell me why doxycycline will disrupt my very important nap schedule, i would really appreciate it.

so, sorry there has been a lack of blogging the past few days. whereas i am relieved we are not expecting any babies, i am enjoying the rest that me being a big baby is bringing.

much love…and i hope you all have a splendid weekend.

    Babies aren’t so bad.

    Neither is levitation.

Here’s what I found for why you can’t lay down after taking it…

“Do not lay down for at least 30-60 minutes after taking it or you could ulcerate your esophagus.”

FYI… The CDC says that Birth control pills also may not work as well if you are taking doxycycline. Use other forms of birth control while you are taking this medicine. :)

Also.. it’s used to treat Anthrax! Weird!!!

I’m so sorry, Anne. Ick. Intestines are a bummer when they’re not obeying. Antibiotics can be maddening too.

    I’ll pray.

I’ve heard that “the road to health is paved with good intestines.” I hope yours heal very quickly! Be sure to eat lots of yogurt or take probiotics to replace all the good stuff that the antibiotics are killing.

Thank you all for your thoughts & prayers. I went back to the doctor today and my WBC was too low so they took me off the antibiotics and now think it’s just a virus. Thank goodness.

    I’m bummed I won’t get a chance to levitate though…

Chris said that instead of feeling like a husband, he feels more like a single father at the moment as he takes care of me.

Ha! Keep praying for him… :)

Pills are funny. Like the side effect of one of my prescriptions reads like this:
    nausea
    dizzyness
    drowsiness
    inability to sleep

Drowsiness and an inability to sleep! They mean it too.

    Anyway hope you feel better!

Oh I really hope you feel better soon! I hate being sick. I am like a child at Toys R Us whose mom just said she couldnt get a toy! And as a single parent…..I suck at caring for myself. I’m such a BIG baby.

    You are in my prayers!

The levitating would be cool, but I would put a request in for the vanishing pill…would come in handy when a kid break is needed ;)

Praying you are feeling better soon!

Hello Anne! I read your blog from Carlos’ blog.

I’ve taken the same medicine. My doctor told me that you shouldn’t take it before you sleep because for some reason the pill takes longer to travel through your esohagus, so staying vertical ensures that it goes through properly.

    Best of luck to you!

My kids would have so much fun if I could levitate! Fun for hours and I’d get much needed sleep. Hope you’re recovering quickly and resting when you should.
