after a pretty heavy post on the sabbath yesterday, i thought i’d share something happening in my own church.
this pig is for real. the men at cross point church will be eating this very pig tomorrow at a tailgating party thing. no girls allowed. which is fine, because i would probably throw up if i saw this thing in person.
knowing this, ryan, who is heading this event up, and whose office is right next to me, has been talking about the process of getting the pig…from buying it, scalding it, and even dehairing it. he just sent me the picture of the final product.
HE IS STILL SMILING. And whose truck is that?
wrong, just wrong.
does this make you want to throw up, or eat some bacon?

I thought it was alive, and going to be used for an object lesson or something (a little bit edgier than the vending machine illustration). But then I saw that it had no legs. Having no legs reminded me of the Eddie Murphy movie where he acts like a homeless guy with no legs and sings the “I have no legs!” song. But that’s beside the point- the smiling pig corpse makes me want to spew a little bit. I’m a Sizzlean kind-of-guy.

umm…i love bacon, but seeing that poor pig ’scalded’ and ‘dehaired’ and without feet is almost too much. i’m sure the men will enjoy it though. :)

Disgusting! Even though I don’t eat a lot of pork I think that mental picture will keep me from ever touching it again. He could look you in the eyes. GROSS!

reminds me of sacrificial offerings in the old testament. Love the idea of a guys only tailgate. My husband would LOVE that.
I have to admit I like all forms of pork - bacon, ham, sausage - YUM!!!

Growing up in Brazil we always had at least a half a pig to eat during holidays and special occasions. Interestingly the “half-pig” option looked like Wilbur on the photo here but split in half lengthwise. We usually baked the hole thing and serve it head and all.
The only time we “pulled” the pig apart before serving it was during my lovely Southern wife’s first visit to Brazil. “Mom, she won’t eat anything that’s looking back at her,” I said.
Personally, I believe that if God did not intend for us to eat the animals, he would not have made them out of meat.

I was a country boy, participated in a lot of “hog killins.” Makes me want fresh tenderloin for breakfast, but I’ll settle for barbeque tomorrow.
