how to lead a tribe (part 2)

12.03.2008 | Leadership

thank you guys so much for the great feedback on yesterday’s post.

this post offers a little bit more simplistic advice…if you’re already leading a tribe, or if you’re going to embark on an intentional journey to do so, this tip is probably one of the most important suggestions i can give you.

BE YOURSELF - DO IT WELL.

if being yourself means you have a huge tribe - do it well.

if being yourself means you have a small tribe - do it well.

if being yourself means your tribe is loved - do it well.

if being yourself means your tribe is criticized - do it well.

if being yourself means your tribe is long lived - do it well.

if being yourself means your tribe is short lived - do it well.

if being yourself means your tribe is popular - do it well.

if being yourself means your tribe is underground - do it well.

whatever it costs you, whatever it means to you, whatever it is that’s required of you…be yourself and do it well.

your tribe can’t exist without you.

be yourself.

do it well.

Good advice Anne. I have felt the pressure as A) a woman in ministry and B) a worship leader (supposed to be cool and i’m not) and C) a 40 something year old to be something I am not. The truth is I don’t lead like most other people, and for sure not like most guys I work with. I’m the dreamy one alot of times, the one who’d rather go around and pray with people, sing, hug, see the beauty, the hand of God if you will, in life. I need space and time to contemplate. I am NOT a type A personality! So it’s been hard for me at times to feel peaceful about who I am. Brokenness led me to a place I am more confident in how God created me and I am also more at peace with all of who I am. Looking honestly at your faults and weaknesses - as they stare you relentlessly in the face - somehow removes the fear of acknowleding and confessing and accepting them. So I figure I am approximately half way through my lfie and I am now okay with being me. About time, huh?

I love this! To me this is how I continually “try” to live everyday. Somedays are harder than others. Others are easier. I think this simplistic perspective gives credence to the mission of the ‘C’hurch.

Thank you Anne for your wonderful posts! They are truly inspirational, educational and informational! Please write more books! The topics you discuss are sooooo in demand!

I’m LOVING these posts. You’re right on… No matter the shape or size of your tribe - lead it, love it, all the while embrace the real you and everyone in it!! Great stuff, Anne!!!!

When I grow up I want to have 55 people comment on my blog just like my she-ro Anne Jackson.
