yikes - my speaking schedule?
Posted on February 8th, 2007 @ 1:52 pm

so, a few times in my blogging history, i have mentioned my fear of public speaking, and a promise i made saying if any opportunities were provided, i would go for it.

opportunity one was while we were in scotland, at a nazarene district’s gathering. i spoke on communication in the church, and then had a time for Q&A. pastors from england, both west and east coast scotland, and some from ireland - even ghana - were there.

me.
texan.
accent.
i say “ya’ll” a lot.

so…it was an interesting experience between them understanding me and me understanding them!

a few weeks ago, one of our student pastors over at our town east campus had been informed about my “dirty girls” article in relevant and asked if i’d be willing to be a speaker for their weekly high school program. they are doing a sex series, and wanted a girl’s perspective on porn and sex. without hesitation, i said yes…and over the last several days have been really excited about it! first, hanging out in a student ministry environment again will be awesome and it’s a topic i would love to talk about.

today, i started getting nervous. just a little. but the fact it’s in the very near future (February 21), i feel as if it’s creeping up on me!

following that, on february 25, i will be returning to powertalk live on dallas’ own 89.7 powerfm. it’s a one-hour show that discusses current issues for teens and twenties. it will be my third time on the show, but i’m not really nervous about radio. it’s never really freaked me out all that much. if you’d like, you can listen to the june 25 interview below.

89.7 PowerFM Power Talk June 25 - Women and Porn Addiction

all that to say please keep me in your prayers as i prepare for these talks. and if you are in the dallas area, feel free to come out to “the net” on february 21 at 7 pm.

don’t live in dallas? check out the radio interview. you can listen to live at 897powerfm.com at 9 pm central time on sunday, february 25.

leave me some love…i need it! :)

A good swift kick.
Posted on July 2nd, 2006 @ 8:00 am

Hmm…I need you guys to pray for me. Or leave some tidbits of wisdom. Or both.

There have been some opportunities presented to me in the last couple of weeks (don’t worry, it has NOTHING to do with working or leaving Lake Pointe - I love it there, and I’m not leaving - Just wanted to clear that up!)…anyway, these opportunities are really cool, but I’m not sure how to answer them yet.

If you know me, you know I am terrified of public speaking. In small groups or one-on-one, I’m fine, but once you put more than a dozen beady little eyes on me, I sweat more than I do when I exercise. Some of these are public speaking…some of these things are contributing to videos as a speaker. Anyway, before I moved here, God and I had a talk where I said “If you open the door to speak, I’ll walk through it” but now that it’s here, I’m being a little cry baby about it and wanting to hide under the bed.

I know the answer is clear…I just need a good swift kick.

Kick me, please.

Radio Show & Skate Demo
Posted on June 30th, 2006 @ 12:54 pm

First of all, the radio show I was on last Sunday (Power Talk on PowerFM here in DFW) speaking on women & porn addiction is posted. You can listen to it by clicking here.

Moving on…Last night, Chris and I got to volunteer at the Livin It Skate Demo put on by Lake Pointe’s Skate Church. I’d guess there was a good 600 or so people of all ages - from little kids to a 70-something pastor I met. The skating was phenomenal (and I know NOTHING about skating).

They did a gospel presentation at the end of the demo, and I was able to talk to a girl named Sky who accepted Christ. Sky’s in foster care until her 18th birthday, which is Tuesday. After she turns 18, she doesn’t know what she’s going to do. I’ve talked to a guy on staff who helps resource people in her situation and he helped me get some things started for her. Please pray for her, if you have a chance. She’s terrified, depressed & lonely. Please pray God will surround her with people who will help her see her purpose in life.

If you want to see more pictures from this event, click on the guy below. I asked him to show off for me so I could get some cool shots. He did a marvelous job.
